LIBRARY AND READING ROOM

1. All members of the staff and students are members of the college library. Every student shall produce his/her identity card before entering the library.
2. The library will be open from 9.15 am. to 4.30 pm. on all working days .
3. Personal belongings like books, umbrellas etc. are not allowed to be taken inside the library. One note book/ sheets of paper may be taken inside the library for the purpose of taking down notes from reference books.
4. Students as well as members of the staff are requested to enter their name and signature on the visitor’s register at every visit.
5. Books of the Reference section ( including periodicals and text books) will not be lent out on loan, but , they may be used for reference within the library, After reference the books shall be returned to the Librarian.
6. Strict silence should be observed within the library, reading room and premises.
7. Nobody shall write upon, damage or make mark upon any book, manuscript or map belonging to the library.8. When a book is issued to a reader he/she must point out to the Librarian any defect noticed concerning the book. Otherwise the presumption will be that the book was quite intact when issued.
a) If a book is damaged or lost by a member, he/she will have to replace it or pay the present cost of the book including postage etc. within the time fixed by the Principal.
b) If one volume/issue of a set is damaged or lost by a member he/ she must replace it by a copy of the same edition. If such a copy is not available he/she shall pay for it within the time fixed by the Principal.
c) If a student happens to recover the volume after having replaced it or paid the value there of he/she will not be allowed to return it to the library and to get back the new copy or its price.
9. Queue system is to be followed at the issue counter.
10. Each student member can borrow three books at a time.
11. The Library is fully Computerised. So the students must produce their Identity Card for books and Periodicals from the Library.
12. The period of loan is usually 14 days including the day of issue after which period a fine of Re.1 per day per book will be levied. Any book which is temporarily on special demand may be lent out for shorter periods and the periods of loan may be determined by the Librarian. If a book is not returned within one month after the due date it will be considered lost.
13. Books on loan may be called back at any time if special need arises.
14. Sublending of books is not allowed.
15. No book prescribed as a text book for a course of study shall ordinarily be lent to students during the period for which it is prescribed as a text book.
16. Books or periodicals will be lent to the members of the staff on getting their signature in a personal ledger maintained for that purpose.
17. Members of the staff may keep with them text books for whole academic year and other books (5 at a time) for thirty days. They should return all documents at the end of the academic year.
18. All final year students should get the clearance certificate from the Library before receiving the hall tickets.
19. Students and staff are required to return all library books before March 31 every year.
20. Students are expected to co-operate with the Library Staff.
NATIONAL CADET CORPS
The National Cadet Corps (NCC) gives opportunities for military training and Social Service to college students without imposing in them any obligation for active military service. The aims of NCC are:-
1. To develop character, comradeship, ideals of service and capacity for leadership in the youth.
2. To provide service training to the students so as to stimulate interest in the defence of the country and
3. To build up a service of potential officers so that the defence service of the country can expand in a National Emergency.
The immediate benefit of NCC training is the improvement in physical and mental capacity, cultivating a sense of pride in smart turn out and bearing, fostering a sense of discipline and responsibility, developing a social personality, an aptitude for leadership and inculcation of the principles and values of military service.
Members of the corps have definite obligation for attending training programmes. Their attendance at weekly parades held during the three academic terms is compulsory. Parades will cease one week before Terminal examinations, and about three weeks before Annual Examinations.
Military uniform, which are to be worn at all parades is issued cost free to all members and will be withdrawn prior to their discharge. Members must make good all loss sustained to the articles provided to them.
NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME (N.S.S.)
The Government of India introduced the National Service Scheme in Colleges and Universities in the year 1971-72. The Universities in Kerala implemented NSS programme from 1976-77. The first NSS unit of our college started functioning in 1983. We have sanction for two units in the college.
The aim of NSS is to educate the students through community service and enrich their personality and deepen their understanding of the social environment in which they live. The more specific objectives of the NSS are to arouse in the students a social commitment towards nation building and to provide them opportunities to work with people for community development.
Although admission to the Scheme is voluntary, once a student opts for it, it will be compulsory for him/ her to complete the minimum 120 hours in a year in the scheme activates. Hence they should be prepared to utilize their holidays and vacations for field work whenever required. The NSS volunteers who complete the minimum requirements for two consecutive years will be given a certificate from the university signed by the Vice Chancellor. The holders of such certificates are eligible to get weightage of marks at the time of admission to any course of study.
Parent Teacher Association (P.T.A.)
There is a very active Parent Teacher Association in the college. The executive committee has taken upon themselves the responsibility of providing amenities to the students in the college and to assist the college administration for the proper running of the college. Every parent or guardian becomes a member of the Association when their wards are admitted in the college. The office bearers are elected annually in the general body meeting.
Scholarships, Fee concession, Students aid fund, awards and Endowments
1. KPCR Fee Concession
Students from economically backward families are exempted from payment of special fees and other tuition fees by the Govt. of Kerala order based on the Kumara Pillai Commission Report. Income limit for the concession is Rs.25,000/- per annum for Degree students and Rs.42,000/- per annum for P.G. Course.
2. Forward community students are eligible for any one of the following scholarships and fee concession subject to the minimum marks, annual family income etc.
a. National Loan Scholarship
Rs.6000 and 7200 per annum for the entire course. Repayment in installment should be made within a specific period after the studies if the scholar does not get the job of a teacher. Minimum marks required for consideration for the award is 50% Annual family income should not exceed Rs.25000/-.
b. Kerala State Scholarship
Minimum of award is Rs.400/- which need not be refunded if the course is completed. Minimum mark required for consideration of the award is 50% and maximum limit of annual family income is Rs.6000/-
3. Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, X’tian Convert and Other Eligible Community students are eligible for full fee concession, Lumpsum Grant and stipend. These students are eligible for the
benefits irrespective of family income and marks, if information relating to the community and nativity is furnished in the SSLC of such students, or fresh certificate is produced by them.
4. Other Backward Community students whose annual family income does not exceed Rs.25,000/- for Degree course are eligible for full fee concession. Such students have to submit income certificate in the prescribed form issued by the Village Officer and countersigned by the Panchayat President/ Municipal Commissioner
5. Physically handicapped students scholarship.
The Director of Social Welfare, Thiruvananthapuram shall award the scholarship. Those who have secured 45% and above marks for the qualifying examination and who are physically handicapped are eligible to apply for the scholarship.
6 Merit Scholarship to the children of School Teachers
Minimum marks 60%. No refund need be effected provided the course is completed satisfactorily
7. Fisheries Scholarship
Children of fishermen are eligible to be considered for the award of this scholarship.
